MANCHESTER, Mass. (Feb. 21, 2015) – The FIU women's tennis team (2-5) fell to the No. 63-ranked Brown Bears, 4-3, on Saturday evening from the Manchester Athletic Club in Manchester, Mass.
FIU jumped out to a 1-0 lead taking all three doubles matches.
Brown tied the match at 1-1 in singles play as freshman
Nerma Caluk fell to Hannah Camhi, 6-1, 6-3. The Bears extended their lead to 3-1, winning two-straight with a 6-2, 6-1 loss for junior
Kaitlin Brozovich to Ammu Mandalap and a 6-2, 6-3 loss for junior
Carlotta Orlando to Alyza Benotto, 6-2, 6-3. Senior
Yana Koroleva made the score 3-2 with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win over Dayna Lord.
The Panthers tied the match at 3-all following a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 win for sophomore
Nina Nagode over Maddie Stearns. However, Brown clinched the match as sophomore
Valentina Briceno fell to Nikita Uberoi, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, to hand FIU the loss.
The Panthers will return home to host the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Saturday, Feb. 28. First serve from the FIU Tennis Courts is set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
