@FIUBaseball Travels to Tampa for Midweek Game with USF

MIAMI (March 17, 2015) – The FIU baseball team (9-11) will travel to Tampa, Fla., to take on the USF Bulls on Wednesday, March 18. First pitch from the USF Baseball Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. ET

FIU is looking to bounce back from a Conference USA series loss at Southern Miss this past weekend. After downing the Golden Eagles in the series opener, 9-1, the Panthers fell to USM, 7-3 on Saturday, and 10-0 (7) on Sunday.
 
Wednesday's game will mark the 33rd meeting all-time between the two teams with, FIU leading the series history, 17-15. The last outing between the Panthers and Bulls was a 6-4 win for USF in Miami on May 7, 2014.
 
The Panthers are hitting .261 as a team with freshman Jack Schaaf (.301) and junior Zach Soria (.353) among the squad's top hitters. Senior Brian Portelli (.247) leads the team in RBI (14) followed closely by Schaaf (13) and junior Edwin Rios (13).
 
As a pitching staff, FIU has recorded a 4.40 ERA over 20 games, striking out 164 batters in 176 innings pitched. The opposition is hitting .254 versus the Panthers.
