ORLANDO, Fla. (April 3, 2015) – The FIU women's tennis team (10-7) fell to the UCF Knights (9-6), 4-2, on Friday afternoon from the UCF Tennis Complex.
FIU took a 1-0 lead, winning the doubles point to start the match. The duo of
Yana Koroleva and
Nina Nagode defeated Kennan Johnson and Caroline Eberhart, 7-6 (4) and the tandem of
Carlotta Orlando and
Valentina Briceno downed Clare Mendell and Sofia Baptista, 7-6 (4).
UCF tied the match at 1-all, as
Nerma Caluk lost to Johnson, 6-1, 6-0. Koroleva gave FIU a 2-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eberhart. However, the Knight rattled off three-straight points to take the match, 4-2, as
Valentina Briceno lost to Baptista, 6-1, 6-2, Orlando fell to Cortney Cesarini, 7-5, 6-2, and
Kaitlin Brozovich lost to Monica Matias, 6-2, 6-3.
The Panthers will player their final regular season match on Sunday, April 5, taking on UAB in Orlando. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
