ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2015) – Reigning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week
Luis Betancur scored the game-winning goal in the 77
th minute to lead the FIU men's soccer team (7-2-0) to a 2-1 win over the UCF Knights (3-4-1) on Tuesday evening.
With the game tied at 1-1, Betancur corralled the rebound off of a shot by
Jamar Campion-Hinds. The goal was the sixth of the season for the Parkland, Fla., native. Campion-Hinds was credited with his team-leading seventh assists of the season.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, FIU got on the board in the 59
th minute when
Santiago Patino struck a shot form 25 yards out which beat UCF 'keeper Zack Briggs. The goal was the second of the season for Patino.
Daniel Gonzalez was credited with his second assists of the season on the goal.
UCF tied the match in the 66
th minute with a goal by Hadji Barry.
FIU goalkeeper
Arthur Clapot (3-1-0) made four saves to earn the victory.
For the match the Panthers out-shot the Knight 14-9.
The team's seven-straight victories are the most by a Panther squad since the 2002 season.
The Panthers will host the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday, Oct. 3. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start.
