Panthers Host @FIUWBB Thanksgiving Tournament

MIAMI (November 24, 2016) -- The FIU Panthers will host the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament with two games Friday and two on Sunday on Lime Court at FIU Arena. The Panthers will take on Weber State Friday at noon and will host either Robert Morris or Stetson on Sunday at 2 p.m. Weber State will host the other team at noon on Sunday.

The Friday noon game (FIU vs. Weber State) will be the first meeting between these programs. The winning teams will play on Sunday, while the teams coming up short in each game matching up on Sunday.

Weber State enters the weekend with a 4-0 record, winning by an average of 10 points so far in the opening month of play. Emily Drake leads the Wildcats with a 17-point average this season. Tuesday, Weber State finished off Westminster by 13 points, 81-68, in a home game in Utah.

In the 2 p.m. contest Friday, Robert Morris will take on Stetson. RMU is 3-2 so far this season. Of the four teams in this tournament, the Colonials average more steals (9.8) than any other. Their turnover margin is what separates them from opponents this season.

Stetson enters 4-1, suffering its first loss of the season earlier this week at Arkansas. The Hatters' 75.2 points-per-game average leads the field this weekend. Stetson's 77.5 percent free-throw shooting mark is in the Top 20 in the nation. The Hatters are first or second in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 16 statistical categories.

FIU has not faced Robert Morris in women's basketball, but holds a 29-4 all-time margin over Stetson. The two programs last met in 2012 in the WNIT, with the Panthers winning 75-47.

Following the tournament, FIU will head to USF for its second and final non-conference road game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Tampa, Florida.
