MIAMI (March 11, 2016) – For the second-straight match, the FIU women's tennis team (11-1) blanked its opponent, defeating UTEP (7-7), 4-0, on Friday afternoon from the FIU Tennis Courts.
The win marked the 10-straight and fourth-consecutive at home for the Panthers.
Ranked no. 57 in the latest Oracle/ITA Tennis Rankings, FIU defeated its second Conference USA opponent this season with Friday's win.
The Panthers made quick work of the Miners, taking the doubles point and winning three-straight singles contests to take the match, 4-0.
In doubles, the tandem of freshman
Maryna Veksler and junior
Nina Nagode defeated Duda Santos and Vivenne Kulicke, 6-2, and senior
Carlotta Orlando and redshirt freshman
Andrea Lazaro topped Daphne Visscher and Lois Wagenvoort, 6-0.
In singles action, Lazaro won her 12
th-straight with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Visscher. Sophomore
Nerma Caluk picked up her 23
rd win of the season, defeating Matilda Tench, 6-1, 6-3. Senior
Kaitlin Brozovich rounded out the singles wins downing Raven Bennett, 6-1, 3-1 retired.
The Panthers will next host the Columbia Lions on Tuesday, March 15. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
