MIAMI (Feb. 23, 2017) – The FIU women's tennis team (5-1) welcomes in-state rival Florida Gulf Coast (4-2) to the FIU Tennis Courts on Friday, Feb. 24, as the Panthers look for their fourth-straight victory.
First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. and admission is free to the public.
The Panthers come into Friday's match ranked No. 38 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division Rankings. FIU is coming off a 7-0 win over Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee last Saturday and enters Friday's match with a 2-0 record at home.
The Eagles have won three of their last four, but suffered a 6-1 loss at UCF last Friday, Feb. 17. FIU has won three-straight over FCGU, including a 4-0 victory last season (Jan. 23, 2016) in Fort Myers.
Four Panthers have reached double-digits in wins this season, led by
Maryna Veksler, who comes into this weekend's action with a 12-3 mark. Joining Veksler are
Andrea Lazaro and
Mina Markovic, who have totaled 11 wins each. Lazaro (11-3) is currently ranked No. 34 in the latest Oracle/ITA Women's National Singles Rankings. Lazaro has registered an overall career mark of 35-12 and a 22-1 record in dual matches. Ten of her 11 victories this season have come in straight sets. Rounding out the double-digit victories is
Ulyana Grib, who owns a 10-3 mark overall (4-1 in dual matches).
