TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 7, 2017) – The No. 13-ranked FIU beach volleyball team (17-10, 7-4 CCSA) dropped two matches after day one of the Staybridge Suites Invitational at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. The Panthers were defeated by No. 10 South Carolina, 5-0, and No. 16 TCU, 3-2.
In the first match of the day, FIU fell to the Gamecocks, as the No. 4 pair of
Anabela Sataric and
Estefanie Bethancourt took their opponents, Julia Mannisto and Carly Schnieder, to a tight three-set decision that finished 18-21, 22-20, 15-9.
Next up, the Panthers faced the Horned Frogs, falling one set shy of a victory. At the No. 2 spot,
Federica Frasca and
Margherita Bianchin defeated Molly Scheel and Haven Hill, 21-13, 21-16. Getting their first win as a pair, at the No. 4 spot, Lina
Bernier and
Katie Hogan took the victory over Clair Doyle and Avery Arellano, 21-8, 21-18. Unfortunately, the Panthers were one match short of splitting their first two matches of the Invitational.
FIU is slated to face-off against No. 10 Georgia State at
2:30 p.m. tomorrow in its only match of the afternoon.
