BILOXI, Miss. – Florida Atlantic got a three-run double and a three-run home run in the sixth inning to fuel an 8-4 win over FIU Thursday morning in the second round of the Conference USA Championship at MGM Park in Biloxi.
With the loss the Panthers (31-27) season ended in the double-elimination tournament, the Owls (34-20-1) advanced into the third round.

Nick Day homered off FAU starter Blake Sanderson.

Nick MacDonald (7-3) threw five shutout innings before running into trouble in the sixth.
FAU catcher Pedro Pages hit a three-run double off MacDonald in the sixth to put the Owls ahead 3-2. Two batters later, Jared Shouppe hit a three-run home run off MacDonald to extend the FAU lead to 6-2.
The Panthers closed to within 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth after Day hit his second two-run home run of the game this time off Alex House (6-4). However, it was as close as FIU would get.
Day was 3 for 4 with four RBI. Day finished the season with 11 home runs and 36 RBI. Day had 10 home runs and 31 RBI last season. Day's 11 round trippers are second on the team to
JC Escarra, who hit 15 home runs this season.
