The Basics 

• FIU came away with a dramatic victory over the Niagara Purple Eagles in eight innings, 6-5.
• Jackie Schoff singled to center-field and scored Tatyana Forbes in the first inning to put FIU up 1-0. That score would hold till the fifth, when the Purple Eagles drove in two on a double to right-center. Niagara would add another run in the sixth off of a solo shot to right-field. The Panthers came up big with a four-run sixth inning that looked to put the game away for good. That would not be the case when Niagara hit their second home run of the game to tie things back up at five apiece. Shannon Saile was then summoned by head coach, Gator Rebhan and shut the door in the seventh. After Taty Forbes was hit by a pitch and stole second, Jackie Schoff hit a single to right-field. Forbes was held at third and in came Vennesa Gallegos, who grounded out to the pitcher, but Forbes charged home and the throw was late. Forbes scored the winning run to improve FIU's record to 13-12.
• Shannon Saile picked up the win in two innings of work in relief. Saile struck out four and improved her record to 8-5 on the season.
• Jackie Schoff went four-for-five, showing off her speed with several of those hits coming on infield base-hits where she beat-out the throw.

Next up for FIU 
The Panthers start conference play on Saturday against the University of Texas-San Antonio at Felsberg Field at the FIU Softball Complex. FIU will host UTSA for a three-game series with a double-header Saturday and game three on Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is set for 4:00 p.m.
