AUSTIN, Texas (March 22, 2019) - Senior Naomi Ruele broke a school record in the 100 backstroke, capping her day at the NCAA Championships on Friday in Austin.

Ruele, who competed in the 100 backstroke, placed 27th overall for the highest NCAA finish of her Panther career. Additionally, the time of 52.42 sets a program record in the event. Despite not qualifying for the finals on Friday, the feat marks another impressive accomplishment for Ruele's resume.
Fellow Panther and freshman Maha Gouda did not appear in any events on Friday, but will be back in action on Saturday. Ruele will also have one last chance to make it to a finals session when she competes in the 100 freestyle on Saturday.
The NCAAs wrap up on Saturday, March 23 with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. and finals set for 5 p.m. ET. Ruele will compete in the 100 free while Gouda will compete in the platform diving event.
