CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (April 20, 2019) – After a rain-soaked Friday, the FIU softball team dropped its series against Charlotte on the road as the Panthers fell in Saturday's doubleheader.
FIU lost the first game 7-2, before falling 9-1 in six innings against Charlotte to close out the day. With the pair of losses, FIU falls to 22-22 overall and 4-13 in league action, while Charlotte moves to 14-30 overall and 5-12 in conference play.
FIU's
Allison Muraskin picked up the loss in the opener on Saturday after allowing four runs on three hits in two innings of work. In game two,
Kendahl Dunford was dealt the loss after giving up four hits and two runs in two innings pitched.
At the plate, sophomore
Brittany Phillips led the Panthers after earning a two-run double. Senior
Jackie Schoff and freshman
Alexis Johns each collected a pair of hits on the day.
FIU dropped game one by a 7-2 margin, as the 49ers jumped out to a 7-0 lead thanks to a pair of homers. FIU pushed two runs across the plate in the final inning, after Phillips' two-run double sent Johns and
Alyssa Laboy home. Charlotte took the second game 9-1, after using a grand slam and a collection of hits to build its lead. A throwing error by the Charlotte defense would allow
Brianna Bahadue to score during the top of the fifth before a two-run homer by Charlotte in the bottom of the sixth would give the 49ers a 9-1 run-rule victory.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will stay on the road as FIU makes the trip to Orlando, Florida to face UCF for a non-conference contest on April 24. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
