Women's Soccer Opens C-USA Play at WKU

MIAMI (March. 3, 2021) – The FIU women's soccer team opens the Conference USA slate to cap a five-game road stretch this Thursday, March 4, when the Panthers head to WKU for a battle against the Hilltoppers.

First kick is set for 6 p.m. ET from Bowling Green, Kentucky. 

WKU PREVIEW
WKU has posted a 2-1 record this spring and are 1-0 in conference play, after recently defeating MTSU by a score of 3-1 in Murfreesboro. The Hilltoppers are led by All C-USA Preseason Team selection Ambere Barnett, who led the team with 16 points in 2019 and has already notched two goals and an assist in 2021. WKU has played all its games on the road this season and welcome the Panthers on Thursday for its 2021 home opener. The Hilltoppers were picked to finish third in the East Division in the league's preseason poll.

INSIDE THE SERIES
FIU trails WKU 5-11-3 in the all-time series, with the last matchup resulting in a 3-1 victory for the Hilltoppers in Miami. The last time FIU defeated WKU was back on Sept. 20, 2012, as the Panthers claimed a 1-0 victory in overtime. 

PANTHER ATTACK
The Panthers are led in points by junior forward Kédie Johnson, who has two goals and an assist in 2021. Sophomore Carmen Marin has displayed play-making abilities in the midfield for FIU, as the Panther leads the team in assists (2), shots (9), and shots on-goal (4). FIU has also seen goals from junior-transfer Ronja Cronvall (2) and freshman midfielder Sophia Vilar (1).

UP NEXT
The Panthers finally return to their home pitch for the first time in over a month, when they welcome ODU next Thursday, March 11, to the FIU Soccer Stadium. Kickoff against the Monarchs is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
