@FIUSwimDive Earns 174-126 Victory at Indian River

Panthers win seven individual titles

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (Nov. 1, 2014) – The FIU swimming and diving team picked up a 174-126 victory over Indian River State College on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Panthers improve to a perfect 3-0 this season in dual meets.

In total, FIU won seven events on the day. Two first year swimmers highlighted the day for the Panthers. Freshmen Brittney Fant and Silvia Scalia each earned two victories for the Panthers. Scalia's two victories came in the 100 and 200 backstroke events, while Fant won the 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly.

"Today was a rough day," said head coach Randy Horner. "We didn't swim very fast, but the ladies gutted out a win against a good team. Adverse days like today will be valuable later in the season."

Freshman Skye Carey helped pave the way for FIU in the 200 freestyle, as she posted a time of 1:54.95 to earn a first place finish while FIU took the top three spots in the event. Senior Nadia Farrugia also took another freestyle event for FIU as she earned a time of 10:36.46 in the 1000 free.

Senior Johanna Gustafsdottir has earned at least one victory in every dual meet this season, as she swam a time 2:09.05 to win the 200 IM.

FIU returns to the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center this Friday at 5 p.m. as it hosts Illinois State.
