SERIES PREVIEW

FIU and Grambling meet for the first time in the Panthers' 46-year history of baseball. The Tigers are one of two first-time opponents for the Panthers this season. FIU will play George Mason for the first time when the two teams meet at the Snowbird Baseball Classic on March 10 in Port Charlotte. The Panthers and Patriots play a three-game series that has the final two games played at FIU.

FIU won one of three games last weekend from Missouri. The Panthers defeated the Tigers 11-5 last Sunday behind a two-run double from Christian Khawam and a three-run double by Diandre Amion.

Four Panthers each had three hits against Missouri: Khawam, Allen, Amion and Eddie Silva. Six Panthers recorded their first hit in an FIU uniform: Seth Cannady, Allen, Amion, Juan Teixeira, Adan Fernandez and Austin Shenton. Silva and Shenton had home runs for the Panthers against Missouri.

Freshman right-hander Steven Casey recorded the win for FIU against Missouri. Casey pitched 3 2/3 relief innings and struck out six last Sunday.

Grambling also won one of three games on opening weekend. The Tigers participated in the Andre Dawson Classic in New Orleans. Grambling lost its first two games against Southern and Arkansas Pine-Bluff before defeating Alcorn 6-5 last Sunday.

Grambling played a doubleheader Tuesday. It was the Tigers' home opener and they swept Wiley College.

Tigers catcher Richard Ortiz leads the team in hitting with a .450 average, 4 HR and 11 RBI. Right-hander Kerry Boykins, Jr. went 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA over the first five games for Grambling.
