• FIU (14-14, 1-2 C-USA) took game three against the UTSA Road Runners (12-10, 2-1 C-USA), 8-5, on Sunday afternoon for the Panthers' first Conference USA win.
• Shannon Saile threw another complete game, adding 11 strikeouts to her season total (154). The Land O' Lakes native allowed five runs – four earned on eight hits to improve her record to 9-6 on the season. Kasandra Castle went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Jessica Rivera was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Rivera hit her first home run of the season – a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning.
• The Panthers found the big inning they've been searching for this weekend right away in the first. With the bases loaded, Castle reached on an infield base-hit, driving in Tatyana Forbes putting FIU ahead, 1-0. Thanks to a fielding error by the Road Runners, Jackie Schoff also scored on the play giving FIU a 2-0 lead. In the next at-bat, Julia Gilbert reached on a fielder's choice. With the bases loaded, Rivera smoked a line-drive over the right-field fence to clear the bases for the grand slam giving FIU a 6-0 lead over the Road Runners.
• UTSA added three runs in the third inning after Saile loaded the bases and gave up a double to right field to clear the bases cutting the FIU lead to 6-3. FIU came right back and added two insurance runs in the bottom half of the third. Venessa Gallegos drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run. Forbes then hit a screaming line drive right back up the middle to make it 8-3 FIU. UTSA tacked on two runs – one in the fifth and one in the sixth to make it, 8-5.
