FIU Softball Hosts Panther Invitational

Play will begin on Friday at 11 a.m. ET


MIAMI (Feb. 21, 2019) - The FIU softball team will be back home at Felsberg Field this weekend as FIU hosts the Panther Invitational with Columbia, Rutgers and Monmouth visiting Miami. 

The Panther invitational begins on Friday at 11 a.m. ET, as Monmouth and Columbia face off, while FIU will play at 4 p.m. ET against Columbia and close out the day facing Rutgers at 7:15 p.m. ET. FIU will continue play on Saturday against Monmouth (1:30 p.m. ET) and Rutgers (6:30 p.m. ET) before closing out the Panther Invitational on Sunday against Columbia (11:15 a.m. ET).

LAST TIME OUT
The FIU softball team split both days over the weekend, as the Panthers went 2-2 in the FGCU Tournament. FIU downed Lamar twice, while falling to Memphis on Friday and on Saturday. 
 
IN THE CIRCLE
In the circle, Megan Kugelmann pitched six innings on Friday against Lamar as she allowed three hits and no runs while fanning seven batters. Kugelmann earned the first blemish on her record for the season, as she allowed four runs to pick up the loss against Memphis on Saturday. The senior is now 3-1 on the year.  Allison Muraskin picked up the loss against Memphis, after pitching four innings and giving up three runs, she later earned one win for FIU against Lamar, after coming in relief to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings. The sophomore is now 2-2 on the year.  
 
AT THE PLATE
Jackie Schoff led the Panthers on Friday at the plate, earning two RBI and collecting three hits. Natalie Orcutt and Deven Kennedy each scored two runs to aid in the 7-0 victory against Lamar. Rebecca Koskey and Jessica Rivera each earned a two-RBI double against Lamar in the afternoon session on Saturday. Koskey finished with three hits on the day, while Rivera and Schoff each collected two.

UP NEXT
The Panthers will head to Madeira Beach, Florida from March 1-3 to take part in the Madeira Beach Invitational as FIU faces Georgia Southern, Penn State, Villanova, Siena and Detroit Mercy.
